Foundation of ISCA (International Student Competition Association) Dresden

Every year TU Dresden students actively participate in BIOMOD in which they require financial support from sponsors. To ease fund-raising activities for future candidate teams and to create a valuable network that offers fruitful exchange of experience and support, we decided to take a step forward and founded ISCA. ISCA aims for a collective movement of current students, alumni, scientific institutes, companies and organizations for sustainable successful representation of Dresden in such scientific competitions.

Extending the borders to Leipzig

Networking and exchanging ideas are crucial tools for scientific growth. We care about extending our vision by consulting with the scientific community within or outside of Dresden. We are extremely grateful for Prof. Seidel and Dr. Smith for hosting us at the University of Leipzig and allowing to present our project idea to their students. We enjoyed sharing thoughts and received valuable scientific feedback which guided us during the development of the project.

Long Night of Science (Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften) Dresden

What’s the meaning of ‘Long Night of Science ’? As clear as it sounds, no sleep! Long Night of Science is an annual event hosted by TU Dresden to present and promote the scientific activities taking place in Dresden. For us, it stood up to be one of the first opportunities to present our project to the Dresden community. We did not miss the chance and worked hard to reach out to everybody in Dresden. We had something for everyone at our stall! Our maze was designed for children but enjoyed by everybody. 330 balloons were popped, the custom designed Nanorover-Pacman game attracted 427 players and the cupcakes received a lot of attention with our special recipe!

The result of the night was a fantastic success and an incredible atmosphere with wonderful feedback. 750 people visiting our stall at the Center for Regenerative Therapies Dresden (CRTD). We took great pleasure in sharing our project and cannot thank the Dresden community enough!

Cellular Machines Lecture, BIOTEC-TU Dresden

Among our greatest supporters, Prof. Dietz and Prof. Schlierf granted us a great chance to speak before the students of BIOTEC-TU Dresden as the moderator of a reserved lecture. It was a fruitful lecture with great discussions as well as valuable scientific input. It most certainly helped with the development of our project. We are grateful to both of our professors and supporters and a very heartfelt thank you to those who attended our lecture!

Team Building with Science

Eight people from all over the world means a lot to learn from each other! Science has always been the strongest melting pot for all of us. We have enjoyed hours of days of work together for always a common purpose. We spent days and nights together, sometimes with very little sleep, to discuss ideas and dig into literature, to prepare for the Long Night of Science, to finish up the experimental work and to document obtained data. The key for a success has always been our common purpose and communication!

Not Always Science but Always Fun

Eight people from all over the world means a lot to learn from each other! Science has always been the strongest melting pot for all of us. However, let us assure you on one thing that you are mistaken if you think science was the one. What’s more was getting to know different cultures. In the escape room we learned to cooperate, on the hikes to share, during the dinners to say cheers in different languages and during the brunches to steal from the plate on the right. Long live inter-cultural harmony!

Video Production

Sleepless nights, streamline of creativity, tons of collaboration and team work. That was the process of video production. Like a small studio we were creating our video. All the way from writing the script, to producing the soundtrack, we created small "departments" in our team. "Hey! I need the second scene rendered in 10 minutes!".... great experience, great result!
